“Oh, they’ll be back, living at mom’s house within six months”… these were the defeatist words spoken over a 19 year old me and my newlywed husband hours after our marriage.
Words Of Discouragment
Fast forward a few years…with little means, I was diligently working my way through nursing school by cleaning houses while keeping the home fires burning with one mountain man hubby and one spirited toddler … and surprise! We were expecting our second child! “Oh my, she’s going to quit college , end up barefoot and pregnant, living in a trailer the rest of her life “, dissenting and lifeless words to a young Gina from a relative.
Down the road a bit further…the heart decision to homeschool was met with opposition, “don’t tell anyone”, “they’re going to be unsocialized weirdos”, “she is a nurse …she doesn’t know how to teach school.” Thankfully, God’s given this girl an extra measure of determination and I successfully persevered despite these grim proclamations over me …maybe even because of them!
Speak Life
BUT, do you know how much more empowering it is to work towards goals when someone speaks life and belief over you?! Speak them confidently over yourself if you have to… In fact, it’s a powerful practice to do regardless of the size of your “cheering section”.
Words can build you up. Proclaim hopeful positivity over yourself and your children. Don’t ever underestimate the gift of expectant belief.
You got this Mama!
