As we’re wrapping up our school year and getting ready for reviews, these thoughts helped encourage and solidify my belief in what we do as homeschooling parents.
I hope to encourage you as well by sharing these personal thoughts of mine about homeschooling and my own family ❤️ …
Thoughts on Twelve Years of Homeschooling
We are wrapping up our twelfth year of homeschooling this month.
If you’ve ever considered homeschooling. Ever wondered if it was a better fit for your family If labels and IEPs, standardized testing, and too much homework has you pondering ?…
Why Homeschooling Works
I caught this glimpse this morning … reminding me that our “out of the box” approach to schooling has yielded some sweet fruit …
First let me say … some of my very good friends and family are teachers, teachers aides and principals … people I highly respect and love … I know they are selflessly investing their hearts and efforts into blessing and building up kids ❤️ …
This is more about the overarching theories not originating from the hard working people on the front lines …
I’ll let these succinct thoughts from a few sum it up.
Critical Thinking Skills Over Memorizing Facts: The Example of Albert Einstein
On why I’ve focused more on critical thinking skills over memorizing facts …
The account is told that the great scientist, Albert Einstein, was once asked how many feet are in a mile.
Einstein’s reply was, “I don’t know. Why should I fill my brain with facts that I can find in two minutes in any standard reference book?”
Einstein taught us a big lesson. He felt it was more important to use your mind to THINK than to use it as a warehouse for facts.?????
Your Child’s Interests Matter!
On why I’ve tailored their education towards things that peak their interest and refuse to squelch their curiosity with boring textbooks and standard curriculum …
In answering the question, “Should your child be a scientist?” Dr. Edward Teller, one of the nation’s foremost physicists, said, “A child does not need a lightening-fast mind to be a scientist, nor does he need a miraculous memory, nor is it necessary that he get very high grades in school. The only point that COUNTS is that the child have a high degree of interest in science.” ?????
You Can Homeschool
Thoughts like these fuel my passion to help and assure other parents who might be interested in starting their own homeschool journey, along with giving healthy confidence to those parents already walking through this beautiful endeavor ❤️
