Read-alouds… perhaps you’ve never heard of the term, I hadn’t either until I started homeschooling 🙂 And then I fell in love with the concept! This definitely is under the language arts supplement category but depending on the content of the book could be cross counted as supplemental social studies or science.
Read aloud’s are books written by one author who has a passion for not only the subject they are writing about, but doing that in a way that weaves beautiful word pictures for the mind of the listener.
Read aloud times consisted of a part of the school day, when all of the boys would eagerly grab their favorite cozy spot in the living room and relax their minds as mom (that’s me 🙂 ) would begin a virtual journey into the pages of a well written story.
These moments spent together were a favorite part of our school day, a time where we could let our mind drift from the troubles of the day and the problems plaguing the world… and simply join the story we were walking into through our imaginations.
Even as I was putting these resources into the website, as I showed my sons some of the books, their eyes sparkled and smiles broke forth across their faces as they instantly remembered the adventurous places we went through the pages of a good book…now that is the sweetness of the homeschooling journey you are embarking on❤️
The following list is just a sampling of some of the great books that we read and it’s my hope that this list serves as a springboard for you to discover even more sweet memories of your own for you and your family.
